How to select schools to adopt
There are 3 ways to find and select schools.
Use just one or all three and use them as many times as you like.
Find schools by name
This works great if you want to adopt a small number schools and you know what they are called.
How to find schools by name
- Start typing the school name in the search field and select yours from the options.
- Press “Select”
“Selecting” does not mean you commit to this school yet – it just adds it to your list for now. You can see your list at the bottom of your screen – (click on the small arrow to open.)
- While you are here, maybe consider adopting some more schools nearby?
Find all schools around you
Say you are a church or a small group and you want to adopt all school within a certain distance of your location.
How to find schools around you using a radius
- Enter a starting point in the search bar (your home or church address maybe).
- Use the slider to choose the size of radius
- Click “SELECT ALL SCHOOLS WITHIN THE RADIUS” to add the schools to your list.
“Selecting” does not mean you commit to these schools yet – it just adds it to your list for now. You can see your list at the bottom of your screen – (click on the small arrow to open.)
Find all schools in a particular area
Maybe you want to adopt all schools in your neighbourhood or a city boundary – drawing a custom shape on the map will be super helpful.
How to find schools by drawing a custom boundary
- Zoom into your desired area on the map
- Click the “draw boundary” button, draw a shape on the map with at least 3 points
- Click “SELECT ALL SCHOOLS IN SELECTED AREA” to add the schools to your list.
“Selecting” does not mean you commit to these schools yet – it just adds it to your list for now. You can see your list at the bottom of your screen – (click on the small arrow to open.)
Commitment
How to commit to adopt the schools you have selected
- Open the selection area at the bottom (click on the arrow)
- Click the “COMMIT” button
- Please confirm you are authorised to commit – especially if committing on behalf of a group, church…
- Excellent – you are done!!!
Any Questions?
Filter by age range?
Maybe you are only interested in adopting schools for a certain age range – click on the “Filter” button.
The choices are “Primary”, “Secondary”, “University/College” and “Other” – schools that were not categorised in the list.
What if I made a mistake when selecting schools?
Need to fix something? Something in the list that is not a school?
Before Commitment – open the selection area at the bottom (click on the arrow) find the wrong entry. If you selected more than one school at a time you might have drop down the selection.
After you committed – in the menu select “qualify” and find the wrong entry.
Delete and start again.
Can Schools be adopted more than once?
Yes, schools can be adopted multiple times.
Can I add school later?
Of course you can – use the same process.
Can someone else see which schools I/we adopted?
For security reasons others cannot see which school you have adopted.
If you want to share it with someone, you would have to show them your list.
Entries on the list are not quite right?
The list of schools has been created using Google data and then goes through several layers of manual checks and refinements – this is done by the volunteer call2all team.
Every so often you will find a weird spelling or an entry that is not a school at all (like a school bus depot).
Choose “Qualify” from the menu to correct and remove items from your list.
What do I do with my adopted schools?
Pray for Students and Staff
In the app you can create a prayer list – and even share that list with others.
Share Jesus
This might be by inviting an evangelist ministry to school or a work together with other churches and put on local events.
Engage them with the bible
Share Gods word in a way that works for them. Audio, written, digital – point them to some really good apps…
Christian Community
Build a discipling community right where they are at school. Or invite a small group to your home for a meal and chat about what it means to follow Jesus.
Compassion and Justice
Care for them in practical ways.
Track and share your progress
Select “DASHBOARD” in the menu.
- When you pray for a school click the “I prayed” button
- Submit updates when you had an evangelistic event, or new people started coming to your life group…
- Track your engagement with your adopted schools regularly
This is for your total commitment, not by school – maybe once a quarter?
