1. What do I need to bring?
We suggest a backpack (school size or slightly larger) and 1 rolling suitcase and/or a duffle bag (not too large).
1. Bible
2. Bedding. Your rooms will have single size mattresses. Bunk beds are used for single people. Families have single beds that can be placed together and covered with a king-size sheet. Please bring bedding materials such as bed sheets & pillow case & pillow. Pillows under $10 are available at Wal-Mart if you prefer to purchase upon arrival.
3. Valid Passport (Note: Expiration Date must be 6 months beyond the end of your DTS outreach.)
4. Clothing & Shoes: It will be cold when you come to Kansas City, so bring your winter clothes. Dress is informal but modest. We don't wear suits or formal clothing normally, however, you may want to bring one set of semi-formal clothes for special events. For footwear, bring sandals or slippers and a pair of tennis shoes for outreach.
5. Personal hygiene items such as toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, soap, sunscreen, etc. Basic toiletries and your own towels.
6. Sleeping bag (lightweight is best)
7. Flashlight
8. Optional: Small portable photo album containing pictures of your family, home, friends, and life back home. You can share this with your new friends and also with the people you will meet on outreach. You may also want to bring a few little inexpensive souvenir items from your country that you can give to friends you make on outreach.
2. Which airport do I fly into?
Kansas City International Airport (MCI) or (KCI)
3. Should I bring my laptop computer?
A laptop computer is not essential, however, it is useful during the lecture phase, for taking notes and doing homework.
Whether or not you should bring your laptop on outreach is up to you. You can store it on campus during your outreach, or mail it home as you prefer.
4. Should I bring my guitar or other instruments?
A guitar is a great item to bring. It can be used during class worship times in Kansas City and also on outreach, as long as you don't mind carrying it!
If you play other instruments that can travel easily and may be beneficial to those around you, bring them!
Storage will be provided if you elect to bring your instrument to Kansas City, but do not wish to take it on outreach.
5. What about bringing jewelry?
Jewelry is okay in Kansas City, but excessive jewelry and body piercings are not good to wear on outreach. They can be offensive to those whom you may be ministering to.
6. Can I bring my cell phone?
It is fine to bring your cell phone, and it can be a great way to stay in touch with friends and family back at home! If you do bring your cellphone, you will be asked to turn it off during lectures, meetings and other class activities.
7. What about bringing a camera?
If you have access to a digital camera / camcorder, it is definitely recommended! You can capture the memories of your DTS for a lifetime and share your experience with your loved ones at home.
8. Can I bring my iPod / MP3 Player / CD player?
Yes, you can as long as listening to your music won't be a distraction or hindrance to your social interaction and to what the Lord wants to do in your life.
