Jack Hayford: A Prophetic Moment In History

The Congress took a deeper course as Jack Hayford, president of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel spoke during the morning session. He gave a noteworthy message to the body of Christ, about “a prophetic moment in history”.

Hayford commented on the fact that one of the clear indications that the last generation is at hand is global terrorism. In his words, he said that “banding together is not an agreeable thing to do--it is binding on us.” He further emphasized that what is expected of the Church requires more than a mere passion for excitement, but a passion for responsibility. The main thrust of his message was summarized in three priorities: priority for discipleship, priority for intercessory prayer and priority for the Jews.

“To love Jesus, we need a deep penetration of indifference about our differences” he added tearfully.

The audience gave a standing ovation at the end his message. “He was not concerned about making a brilliant presentation, but spoke as a statesman for the Church.” said Silas Pinto of First Baptist, Orlando.

Joel Hunter, A Church Distributed

Joel Hunter, of Northland Church built on the unity theme when he spoke about “a Church distributed”. Hunter said that separation of church is insanity, adding that God is both singular and plural, He is relationship.

The afternoon session was divided into workshop groups which ran simultaneously. Some of the topics explored include Orality, 4K-process and implementation, first steps in reaching an unengaged people group and church planting.

Evangelism, Luis & Kevin Palau,

At the evening session, Vonette Bright, co-founder of Campus Crusade for Christ since 1951 and Global Pastors Network was welcomed on stage and appreciated for life-time Christian work and impact on countless number of lives through her and her husband Bill Bright’s outstanding leadership and service.

The meeting featured a Polynesian cultural expression by the “Island Breeze”, a performing arts ministry within YWAM. Mark Anderson introduced the Impact World Tour campaign idea, a new campaign style which he founded in 1991. He explained how it is designed to reach cities for God through creative use of music, arts and entertainment.

Danny Lehmann humorously shared about personal evangelism, highlighting the extreme fears that prevent people from sharing about Christ through a video presentation.

Luis and Kevin Palau of Palau Association, a worldwide outreach ministry shared about how evangelism can transform and change nations. “Except you connect evangelism with deep involvement with society, you will not get a chance to preach the gospel” said Luis Palau.
Kevin Palau shared about how Palau ministry is partnering with various spheres of society in Portland, partnering with civic leaders to impact the city.

“The greatest gift we can give people is the gospel” said Luis Palau. He closed by saying we need to show the love of Jesus in a rounded approach.
